GIGS 2005
24 HOUR CHRISTMAS GIG - NUMBER 15, BOLTON 24/12/05
Acoustic gig at 8.15 am. Bolton's first ever 24 hours gig under the new licensing laws. In aid of Derrian House. Also the first p.w.l. gig at which an audience member has got into a fight with a bouncer at the front of the stage during the set.
Setlist:
SHOOTING GALLERY - THE THIRSTY SCHOLAR, MANCHESTER (w/THE LIKES & RORY MCKEE) - 12/12/05
Small weekly unsigned band night, not a huge number of people there but it was still good.
Setlist:
CLUB FANDANGO (w/GOOD SHOES, THE MAYBES? & STUBBSY) - NIGHT & DAY, MANCHESTER - 25/11/05
A particularly good gig this one. A nice big crowd, some good (and more importantly friendly) other bands. Good sound from Ivan at N&D. I also personally feel I played the best I have all year. Really cut loose and enjoyed myself at this one, even if I did just start rambling on about toast for a while...
Setlist:
A.K.A. Yes! I Am A Long Way From Home. The furthest trek so far for a PWL gig. Worth the trip to see some great other acts - the Fishery Commission with their gameboy generated 'blip-hop' and the charming indiepop of the ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZs. Sadly I had to miss Spraydog cos otherwise I would've been trapped in a Sunderland car park all night. My set was marred by a malfunctioning guitar lead but was still pretty good fun.
Setlist:
OPEN MIC, IGUANA BAR, CHORLTON 15/11/05
Pretty unremarkable open mic set. Nice venue, some other interesting acts played but I don't know who they were.
Setlist:-
ACOUSTIC ALL-DAYER, THE DOG & PARTRIDGE, BOLTON 23/10/05
First gig with guitar and omnichord. Used it to add rhythms to a couple of songs and played the last song with the chords and harp - which got lots of interest from people who'd never seen one before. Also a few mutterings about it being 'not really acoustic'... yawn. Tried to make it interesting by reworking some songs that I've been doing at the groovebox gigs, rather than sticking to the obvious acoustic songs.

DEATH 2 THE DJ (w/OUR FOLD and THE YOUNG OFFENDERS INSTITUTE) - THE NEW BERGERACS, BOLTON 16/10/05
After only 5 years I finally play a p.w.l. gig in my home town. It was great, the sound by Andy from DOA was possibly the best I've ever had anywhere. The crowd enjoyed it, the other bands enjoyed it, I enjoyed it. Bit too close to the last manchester gig to play anything new so I settled for the same songs in a slightly different order.

LEAVES SUPPORT (w/THE FALLOUT TRUST), NIGHT & DAY CAFE, MANCHESTER 11/10/05
Playing to a much bigger crowd this time. Think the sound was better. Some pretty good responses including a shoutout from the Fallout Trust who I didn't manage to speak to after their set (thanks guys). All round success even if I wasn't on top form performance-wise.
Setlist:
BLUE MONDAY - BLUE CAT CAFE, HEATON MOOR - 15/08/05
Short open mic set at this caf, could've done without my guitar breaking.
Setlist:
Second ever gig in England and my first on what you might call my home turf. Great sound, first gig with the new MC505. Great crowd came from the far corners of everywhere, which was a good job as the venue would have been pretty lonely without them all.

Review taken from Glasswerk.co.uk:
"Experimental acts always have experimental names and tonights, post pubescent Kid Carpet from Manchester is no exception. Pagan Wanderer Lu is just like the later Blur and the poppy happy go lucky tunes similar to The Magic Numbers, each one is catchy and with fruity drum machine loops. He starts of with a tune, with lyrics like vote with your feet, showing that it isnt complete pop.
The standout tune of the night from PWL is Keep The Weather Out which has a political edge to it but is also an electro folk-pop tune. This might sound crazy and un-workable, but it actually is a triumph about Churchill and a couple of other rather ominous subject matters. Despite the machines debut nerves, it holds up and PWL receives warm applause from the crowd, the crowd are buying into this, but its more thought provocation than a dance or crowd surf. The crowd now want an encore, but too our disappointment there isnt one."
INDIESOC ALL DAY MUSIC FESTIVAL - ABERYSTWYTH BANDSTAND 28/05/0005
A bright sunshiney summer's day saw me play the bandstand for the first time. I was much more nervous than normal. I think because of the added pressure of knowing I'm blasted out to the general public, old ladies wandering by and getting into the groove. Apparently you could discernibly hear me behind the hotels.

SPONTANEOUS DAVID MYSTERIOUS SUPPORT SLOT - COOPERS ARMS, ABERYSTWYTH 14/5/0005
Back to my roots, playing acoustically downstairs at the cwps. The Gogz were supposed to be playing but didn't turn up so DM got bumped up the bill and I hopped on for a few songs. It was a nice set, the crowd were listening and enjoying. Another band played called Pwsi Meri Mew (i think...) and they were fun and good guys to boot.
