GIGS 2000-01
PLAYING FOR PEACE - COOPERS ARMS 5/12/0001(02)
Not a great gig. i felt very ill and distinctly uninspired. setlist was: also on the bill were Rick Simms, Tom Pople, Dai and Jon from Seven Words, the utterly mindblowingly embarrassingly good Jamie McCombie, and someone's dad.
ABERYSTWYTH SONGWRITERS CIRCLE I - COOPERS ARMS 28/11/0001(01)
Shared set w/jon swain of seven words and tom pople. went pretty well for a first time self-organised gig and is the first gig i have ever played for which i received payment (15.60 to be exact). Was completely upstaged by Tom's rendition of 'Jonny B Goode' but clawed some dignity back with a David Bowie cover. Setlist: KEVIN SEDGELY'S BIRTHDAY PARTY - KEVIN SEDGELY'S HOUSE 17/11/0001
A quite embarrassing appearance. I played 'jaded wannabe parade' in his loft to about twenty people. The atmosphere of stoned reverence was immense - spoiled slightly by his sister laughing loudly at the lyrics. I then sang 'If you're happy and you know it' with Tim from Mako/Seven Words. (and by the way you smart witted cunt, the 'stone reverence' thing was a joke, unlike every earnestly meant self promoting thing you say)
JAPE SUPPORT SLOT @ LIVE LOUNGE - BAR 9 15/11/0001
Back to usual with a largely indifferent audience although it's the first time anyone's danced to me - bizzarre. I played quite badly although i still got positive comments from people which means there must be an inherent beauty and truth to my music which is obvious for all to see. I apologise to any White Stripes fans however. Setlist was: Jape were excellent - chilli peppers meets RATM - far far better than the acoustic night gig. it's just a shame that there weren't as many people there as there normally is. having the car-alarm fest that is Plasma in the next room didn't help. although Plasma does raise lots of good money for Bay Radio and shouldn't be knocked for that.
INDIESOC UNPLUGGED IN BAR 9 - 13/11/0001
My first headlining gig and definitely the best one i've played despite forgetting how to play Xmas song. The response was amazing - probably just as a result of actually getting a response rather than the usual indifference. Setlist was: the other bands there were Mako, Jape, and Rick Simms.
SOUTH BEACH - 21-22/10/0001
Sat on the beach with a bunch of hippies singing Belle and Sebastian songs i was asked if i was being myself or pagan wanderer lu. i replied pagan wanderer lu so i suppose that counts as a gig. don't remember what i played though. i think at one point i played the opening bars of 'Xmas song'. Solid.
VIBRATION WHITE FINGER - PO NA NA 20/3/0001 10.00 Second gig of the night and bottom of the bill again (under some fucking djs) it seemed to go okay after someone realised i couldn't hear myself singing and turned the volume up. Vibration White Finger were outstanding as usual. Setlist was: COMIC RELIEF NIGHT - RUMMERS WINE BAR 20/3/0001 8.00 Bottom of the bill on an acoustic night of people doing mainly covers. i managed to completely fuck up my first song due to technical problems and the fact that i didn't know the words, never mind though it was for charity. Songs played were: THE OUTBACK - LLANBADARN STUDENTS UNION 13/12/0000 Bottom of a bill also featuring deflour and The Jonny Narcissist songs played were: Some teething troubles with an absent P.A. led to me singing through deflour's guitar amps, thanks to them for that. No thanks to The Jonny Narcissist for sitting on the stage with their girlfriends/groupies and talking all through my fucking set, being generally arrogant, slagging deflour off before they'd even come on, and being one of the shittest bands i've ever had the misfortune to sit through twice.
